| “From Tiny
Acorns…”--DATAMAXX – An SBA 504 Success Story
Someone once said, “From tiny acorns, mighty oaks
grow.” Small businesses in our nation prove this adage
over and over again. In the case of Datamaxx, nothing
could be truer.
Crucial to its growth was the construction of $5.6
million, 32,500 square foot headquarters and advanced
technology center with video conferencing capabilities
in Tallahassee. Datamaxx took occupancy of its new
building in November 2001. “We are extremely proud
to note that FFCFC was able to provide the key to
the financing of this land purchase and construction
project through the SBA 504 program,” said Todd Kocourek,
President and CEO of FFCFC.
Founded in August 1991, Datamaxx has developed from
a small local company with five employees to an internationally
recognized industry leader that now employs over 90
in Tallahassee alone, with additional employees at
satellite offices in Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi,
New Jersey, Ohio, and West Virginia. Providing dependable,
state-of-the-art technology to law enforcement agencies
has been the key to its success.
The company has always specialized in the development,
installation and maintenance of desktop and mobile
software applications for use by federal, state and
local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.
Today, Datamaxx serves more than 70 percent of the
law enforcement communications market in North America,
including 14 federal agencies and state and local
customers in 37 states and Canada. The company has
statewide contracts including Oklahoma, Maryland,
Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia. Federal agencies
it services include the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI), Department of Justice, Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco
and Firearms (ATF).
According to Kay Stephenson, President and CEO of
the Datamaxx Group, “The company was the first to
introduce technology that enables agencies to exchange
mug shots and fingerprints via personal computer.
It was first to offer data encryption across law enforcement
networks, first to offer browser-based and pager-based
access to law enforcement networks, first with PC-based
law enforcement software, and one of the first to
provide a successful integrated justice solution.”
Recent awards include the 2002 Tallahassee Chamber
of Commerce Technology Business of the Year, the 2002
Governor's Business Leadership Award and the 2003
Hummingbird* Partner of the Year (awarded in August,
2004).
* Note: [ED]Over 33,000 customers worldwide, including
90% of Fortune 100, rely on Hummingbird technology
to access, manage, analyze and collaborate around
